Globalism Reading Summary and Analysis Articles I have the 9 articles that will be attached, the assignment requirements and the worksheet to fill in.

the assignment is not meant to be wordy and boring. it needs to be informative with all the articles and be creative discussing it.

Globalization: Defining, Assessing, Debating, and Understanding
Due at the beginning of class on Thursday 7 February 2019.
Globalization Assignment = 10% of your final grade
This assignment consists of three parts.
PART I: Reading Summary and Analysis Worksheets
Please fill out (type, not hand-write) a “Reading Summary and Analysis Worksheet” (posted on
BlackBoard) for each of the 9 globalization articles – Nye, Friedman, Ghemawat, Micklethwait and
Wooldridge, Sen, Gray, Barber, Huntington, and Kung. The worksheets are designed to distill key
information from the readings so as to facilitate in-class discussion and debate. To those ends, bulletpoint listing responses are sufficient instead of formal writing. Although you may write as much as you
want, try your best to be as brief and to-the-point as possible – a single page is ideal. Do not leave any
section of the worksheet blank!
PART II: Defining and Assessing Globalization
Of the various arguments and perspectives presented in all of the readings (Nye, Friedman, Ghemawat,
Micklethwait and Wooldridge, Sen, Gray, Barber, Huntington, and Kung), which do you like best or find
most compelling? Why? Which one do you like least or disagree with most? Why? Be specific!
Ultimately, what is your definition of globalization?
PART III: Developing a Schema to Explain and Understand Globalization
Now consider all 9 articles (Nye, Friedman, Ghemawat, Micklethwait and Wooldridge, Sen, Gray,
Barber, Huntington, and Kung) in a holistic manner. You have read a variety of different authors
(representing different backgrounds, disciplines, and biases), different perspectives and approaches,
different arguments and conclusions, and different methods of mustering evidence to make a case. Now
what?!? Try to make some sense of all this in a comprehensive, all-inclusive way by developing a
schema – a unique way of organizing the material – to help grasp, make sense of, and understand all that
you have read. There are many ways of doing this, including grouping and categorizing, emphasizing
similarities and differences, etc. The schema can be either verbal (expressed through words), and/or
visual (expressed through pictures, diagrams, charts, etc.). There is an example on BlackBoard and I will
share others in class. Be creative and see what you can come up with!
Remember…
(1) The schema must somehow refer to and incorporate the key ideas/arguments of all 9
articles, so refer to each clearly by author name.
(2) Make sure that you provide sufficient explanation so that anyone looking at the schema can
understand how and why you organized the material the way you did.
