Process Writing: Seven ways to cook salmon 1. For this discussion, you must first locate an example of process writing. This could be from a detailed recipe, a set of instructions, an owner’s manual for a product, or a “how-to” website. Once you locate the piece, your task is to evaluate the writing. If you have a link, be sure to share it.
Respond to the following:
• What process is being described? Are the instructions clear? Would you be able to follow them?
• Does the writing work well for its target audience? How do you know?
• What would you do to make this process writing more effective?
Post your primary response (150 – 200 words). Read any postings already provided by your instructor or fellow students. Read and respond to the conclusions drawn by at least two of your classmates. Remember to read the feedback to your own major postings and reply to it throughout the module.
2. You are facing a particular scenario as a writer. You have a new colleague who is having trouble following a particular procedure in your workplace. Your supervisor asks you to write a process essay that would help this new employee and could be used in the future for other new employees. Your supervisor would like to make your essay a part of the “welcome” manual at your job.
For the assignment, you may choose the procedure. Your task is to write a clear essay that flows well and describes the procedure or process in a way that would make sense to someone new. It is important to keep your audience in mind as you write, since you may know the procedure well, but your audience does not.
See the Course Calendar for the due date.
Compose your work in a .doc or .docx file type using a word processor (such as Microsoft Word, etc.) and save it frequently to your computer. For those assignments that are not written essays and require uploading images or PowerPoint slides, please follow uploading guidelines provided by your instructor.
3. Also review our reading on the given-new contract:

Your task is to first review the assignment for this module in which you are asked to write a short process essay describing a process for a new colleague. Then, you should focus on one paragraph that you will include in your essay. Share this with the class. However, you must pay close attention to the given-new contract. You will want to practice the given-new contract in this paragraph. Remember, each new idea builds on the previous idea!
Once you have shared your paragraph, your task will be to evaluate and provide feedback to your classmates on their paragraphs.
As you provide feedback to your classmates, you should respond to the following:
• Is the paragraph clearly written? Does it flow well according to the given-new contract?
• Are there any sentences that do not follow the given-new contract? If so, which ones?
• Do you have any suggestions for revisions that would make the paragraph stronger? If so, what are they?
Post your primary response (150 – 200 words). Read any postings already provided by your instructor or fellow students. Read and respond to the conclusions drawn by at least two of your classmates. Remember to read the feedback to your own major postings and reply to it throughout the module.
4. Before you begin, review the following link and make a list of the errors you have had made before in your writing or that you know you struggle with:
Excelsior College Online Writing Lab. (n.d.). The 20 most common errors (Links to an external site.)Links to an external site.. Retrieved from http://owl.excelsior.edu/posts/view/364/

What can you do to overcome those struggles?
