A response paper for Japanese cinema class The assignment for the response paper is to watch Kurosawa’s Rashōmon (available streaming online on YouTube) and write about the narrative perspectives and points of view (POV) in the film and their functions, effects and significance to the individual stories of the Woodcutter, Monk, Samurai and Wife being both told and shown/”pictured”. The positioning, viewpoints and perspectives of the camera, in other words, are implicitly those of the director/narrator and the audience.
