Investigations and Intential Tort You receive an anonymous call about an employee who took merchandise from the store without paying for it. As part of your investigation, you interview the accused who admits to taking merchandise but advises he did it with the full knowledge and consent of his supervisor. The supervisor was on vacation and not available to you. You presume the employee is lying because the supervisor would have been violating company policy in allowing this “take it now and pay for it later” type of arrangement. In following company procedure, you report this matter to law enforcement. You give them all the information you have and tell them that based upon company policy – you believe this to be employee theft. The employee is arrest and charged.
