Describe it physically and qualitatively, meaning: try and capture the personality of your hometown, not just the individual people and places one would find there. THIS IS NOT AN ADVERTISEMENT, so don’t write like it’s an advertisement. Your goal is not to talk up your town and make me want to visit. Instead, your goal is to write HONESTLY about your hometown and from your point of view (meaning: not a GENERIC, or universal understanding of your hometown, but a personalized one). You may write about your hometown as an entire city, or, if you’re from a larger city, try and think in terms of specific neighborhoods or regions, (ie: Cannery Row is just one neighborhood in the larger city of Monterey).Complete this freewrite BEFORE you begin the Introduction to a Place Prewriting assignment.
