Invasive species and climate change have both proven to be obstacles to the health of our regional
ecosystems. In the proposed study, we will be observing both above- and below-ground plant growth in
order to eventually draw a conclusion on whether increased growth on invasive species due to climate
change will negatively affect native species. In the experimentation process, we will be growing a total
of twenty plants. Ten Tussilago farfara plants and ten Lonicera maachii will be grown. Five plants of each
species will be grown in an environment that maintains an average temperature of 70 F. The remaining
five plants of each species will be grown in an average temperature of 80 F. The effect on overall plant
health, including appearance, dry mass, and height will be measured in order to draw more complete
conclusions. The association between increased temperature and overall plant health will give us insight
on how climate change may affect the survival rate of invasive species in the region.
