In the article “Korean Wave Pop Culture in the Global Internet Age” Youna Kim, attempts to contextualize the imminent rise of the Korean pop culture in the internet age. In the article, the author addresses mainly the socio-cultural and political implications both in the complexity and paradoxical nature within the context of worldwide inequalities that are coupled with uneven power structures. This analysis is aimed at offering two main answers: Why is the Korean pop culture more popular now? Why now? In finding answering these important questions, the author develops five critical arguments: emotion, everyday reflexivity, precarious individualization, pop nationalism, and diasporic nationalism & the internet. This paper analyses these five key arguments and offers additional insights into the Korean Wave phenomenon.
