Before you submit your next story, be sure to proofread thoroughly, double-check AP usage and
include newsworthy information.
1. Come up with a story idea that is different from the first story that you wrote. Again, it
should be of interest to your Wartburg audience.
2. Using the Vogel Library database as your guide, find TWO research articles that connect
with your topic. Be sure to cite at least one fact from each article in your story.
Attributions are critical.
3. For this second story, you will be required to have TWO primary sources (persons
directly connected with your topic.) Prepare questions for these sources and conduct
interviews. Attempt to interview the highest, most knowledgeable sources on your topic!
4. Write a 500-word (MINIMUM) story combining your research and interview
information. Use quotes from your interview sources.
5. The story idea is due on MONDAY, FEB. 4. Send it to the my.wartburg link as an MS
Word attachment. Be sure to include the topic and identity of your primary sources,
their connection with the story (title, etc.), along with contact information for that person
and a list of five to six DIFFERENT questions FOR EACH. Follow the guidelines you
were given for Story #1 regarding format (Times 12 point font, SINGLE-SPACED).
Submission of your story idea is worth 5 points.
6. Your completed 500-word (MINIMUM) story is due no later than MONDAY, FEB. 11.
Submit it via the my.wartburg link for your COM 200 class. Be sure it is an MS Word
attachment in Times 12 point font. Single space, use paragraphs, and check your AP
book for EVERYTHING you’re not sure of.
7. The Grading Rubric is below. Note that this story is worth 25 points, rather than 20, as
was the case for Story #1. Your writing skills should improve with each story.
