Civil Rights is an important time in American History. Civil rights movement was
a struggle for social justice. It took place in 1950s and 1960s. During the Korean war
600,000 African Americans fought. Most of the African Americans were underutilized
because of racial prejudice which led to new opportunities. The 24th infantry was
disbanded, which lead to the end of the segregation in the military. According to

Before World War 2 most African Americans were low wages farmers, factory
workers. In early 1940s war-related work was booming, but most African Americans
were not given the better paying jobs. Franklin D. Roosevelt issued an executive order
8802 after thousands of African Americans threaten to march for equal employment
rights. During the WW2, despite suffering segregation and discrimination during their
deployment, which was a stark contrast to why Americans had entered the war to begin
with defending freedom and Democracy in the world.
On Dec. 1st, 1955, Rosa Parks, found a seat on the bus after a long day’s work,
but because of segregation laws Rosa Parks was supposed to give up her seat and sit
on the back of the bus with all the African Americans.

rights. African American leaders formed Montgomery improvement association (MIA).
that was led by Rev. Martin Luther King. This role placed Martin Luther King front and
center of the civil rights movement. We will examine the work that Martin L. King did for
Civil rights from the time M.I.A. was formed and until the his assassination. We will look
at how the United States has moved forward in Civil rights since his death.
