Delta Pacific Caste Study
Part One
The Delta Pacific case (DPC) study provides insight to challenges that organizations are
faced with when changing their business model. DPC has been a successful company since the
1990’s. However, after the globalization process, the firm could not bear with intense
competition of foreign companies and began losing the market (Hannay, 2013). Initially, the
organization used a traditional model where customer relationships were developed through the
services and products delivered by the company. The company sought to change the business
itself rather than looking for opportunities to improve the way the corporation is working. A
change in the model required DPC to build customer relationships using the knowledge and
expertise of its employees.
The case scenario demonstrates that a company needs to be patient when transitioning
from one business model to the other. The time frame gives the workers sufficient time to
understand the concept of their redefined functionalities. Moreover, it seems that the
effectiveness of a new business model is highly based on the changes made to DPC’s
organizational culture. The leadership adopted in the company should have properly evaluated its
new strategy, and made sure that it had laid out essential strategies to attain long-term objectives.
One of the contingency models that DPC can use to affect organizational change is
situational leadership model. The model refers to when a manager or leader of a firm must adjust
his or her style to align with the development level of the followers being influenced (LipmanBlumen, 2014). Given that the company made a significant organizational change and totally
drifted its culture from sales to knowledge-based solutions, situational leadership model can be
utilized as it changes constantly to meet the needs of organizational members as per the situation.
Another model is the Robert House’s path-goal contingency model can be used to affect
the organizational change in Delta Pacific. The theory is based on the idea that goals are
achieved when some effort is applied, and a reward is given following achievement (LipmanBlumen, 2014). Additionally, the reward should be valuable enough to encourage the followers
of a given leader to perform well.
In Delta Pacific’s case, I plan to use the situational leadership model as part of my change
initiative. Considering the drastic change, a leader who tells and directs is needed. In directing
and telling, the organizational leader micro-manages each of the individual employee’s
behaviors, hence shaping their behavior to attune to the new organizational culture.
Part Two
The situational leadership contingency model will be used to bring a change in the firm’s
organizational system. The model will allow the utilization of a participating leadership style,
whereby the leader will work with the followers to ensure that tasks are completed successfully.
Based on the results of the Myer-Briggs type indicator, I believe that I am the best leader to help
achieve these changes.
DPC has been a successful company since the 1990’s. However, after the Globalization
process, the company could not withstand the competition of overseas companies and started
losing the market and looked after changing the company business itself instead of looking for
opportunities to improve the way company is working. The contemporary global environment
does not allow firms to adopt conventional factors if they seek to maintain a competitive
advantage over their rivals. As such, organizations have to restructure their operations to ensure
that modern factors are employed as shown in the case of Delta Specific.
Although DPC achieved great success and profitability for several years, due to
globalization and frequent changes in technology the company had to undergo huge loss and
soon after that leadership realized they would need to focus on the action plan. Ideally, DPC
requires the situational leadership contingency model to ensure that organizational changes are

a) Situational leadership model should be utilized to hire a few people from third-party
companies who have the necessary expertise in the knowledge-based field (McCleskey,

c) Leadership to focus on marketing on the new business line and inform all stakeholders
about its recent undertakings.
d) Since this is a new initiative, motivation is crucial to each of the employees so leaders
should motivate their employees.
It is vital that the leadership of an organization be exemplary for any significant change
to be realized within an organization. Delta Pacific performed dismally due to change in the
business model as well as the leadership model employed. The situational model can guarantee
the firm long-term success since it holds each leader responsible and accountable for the
organization’s success and failure.
