Resolving a Conflict with your Manager Cheryl Normal is an Administrative Assistant in the Social Work Department at the University of Chicago. Her supervisor, Tom Ick, the Assistant to the Department Head gave her a document to complete at 4:30 p.m. Cheryl normally leaves work at 5:00 p.m. The next morning she discovered that she had forgotten to include a key paragraph in the document.

Her supervisor, Tom Ick, stands in front of her desk and proclaims loudly, “How could you be so stupid? Don’t you have any sense? Don’t you read the work you are doing? Why are you so slow?”

Cheryl is visibly upset and seems embarrassed because everyone in the office observed this interaction. This is not the first time this has happened to Cheryl or others that work for and with Tom.

Cheryl runs into you shortly after the interaction, and has indicated that she “knows you won’t do anything,” but shares that she can’t work with Tom for another minute. While sharing her personal story she also indicates that most employees feel that most of the managers behave like Tom and face no consequences for their “abusive” actions. While you are not Tom’s boss, you are a Director in the Social Work Department.

Using material from the lectures, text and other sources explain how you would address Cheryl’s situation directly and from an overall leadership perspective.

In a persuasive style paper (one that uses words to convince the reader that your opinion is correct with regard the issue) of 3-5 pages explain how you would resolve the conflict posted above. Be certain to site sources in your paper.
