1.1
Project Overview
PSL Corporation is a data analytics firm that provides high-quality data analysis for decisionmaking and problem solving to various organizations. The firm has been in operation for less
than two years and has been primarily gathering and analyzing data. It monitors the traffic on its
website to ascertain whether the people who visit their website went there directly or followed
the link that the organization has provided. The company also use web analytics software to
measure and analyze the concrete data relating to whether the website users used the keywords
provided to maneuver to the site (Robson, 2015). With the company’s planned growth of 20% in
the next 18 months, there is a need to redesign the current information system to improve the
functionality to the system in line with the anticipated expansion. However, the fact that the
company is relatively new and operates with limiting technological infrastructure has made it
necessary to hire some potential outsourcing and offshoring to facilitate the system upgrade.
1.2
Background including current process
PSL Corporation is a data analysis firm dealing with online data gathering and analysis to
provide solutions to other organizations. The company is still at is growth phase and has been in
operation for less than two years. Currently, PSL Corporation applies web analytics to analyze
operating system data which it uses to help other organizations in the decision-making process
(Robson, 2015). The project involves the design and development of the current information
system to improve the functionality to the system in line with the anticipated expansion. The
project goal is to facilitate the growth plan that will see the company expand its operations by
60% within the next 18 months. The project will incorporate a cloud computing technology in
the improved IT system while observing security protocols.
The company is planning to redesign its IT infrastructure and use a hybrid solution that
integrates different technologies and best practices in the industry to facilitate a cost-effective IT
system (Krishnan, Bhagwat & Utpat, 2015). The IT role of this project is to leverage the process
of gathering data by implementing an appropriate IT infrastructure with the capacity to support
its growth plan. In response to its growth plan. This improvement will enhance the capability of
the web-based tools
1.3
Scope
1.3.1 Scope of Project
Provide a detailed Scope Statement Here.

Due to the sensitive nature of the project that PSL Corporation will be
undertaking, the data and volume considered for conversion will be
restricted to tasks, deliverables, and goals of the project.
Testing
The functionalities of the project will be tested based on the design of the
system.
Funding
The project funding is limited to $6500 USD
Training
The staff and end users will be trained on implementing and testing the
system (Fleming & Koppelman, 2016).
Education
The relevant education that will be given to the users includes developing
an information system
1.3.2 Constraints and Assumptions
1.3.2.1 Constraints

Constraints are limitations that the firm will impose during the project implementation. One
of the major constraints that this project may face is budgetary constraints when it comes to
allocating financial resources to purchase the required software and equipment which has
proved to be very expensive. The budgetary constraint may thus make it difficult to acquire
this equipment thus making it difficult to achieve the project goals (Larson & Gray 2015).
The risk associated with the time schedule which the project should run is also a major
constraint in this project. The complexity of the project may delay the completion of the
project within the specified time schedule, thus making it a big challenge to meet the targets.
Perhaps this constraint may be attributed to the limited resources caused by inaccurate
budgeting processes
1.3.2.2 Assumptions
2

Assumptions refer to the perception that the firm believes to be true with respect to the
pursuant of its objectives and goals. Based on the experience and knowledge of the company
in data analysis, the assumptions made in defining the scope, objectives, and approach of this
project will be of great significance in the risk management plan. The assumptions in this
project are that the project would be completed within the specified time period. However, an
allowance of 15% delay has been provided in case of technical challenges during the project
implementation.

The cost of labor is also assumed to include the indirect and direct labor costs which are
based labor hours spend in delivering the project (Chan, Song, Sarker & Plumlee, 2017).
Technically, it is assumed that the labors will only be paid for the time spent working on the
project to avoid too much idle time which may cost the organization unnecessary labor costs.
1.3.3 Risks
The following risks have been identified as possibly affecting the project during its progression:

PSL Corporation will face a number of risks inherent to the implementation of this project.
among the potential risks that the project may face include the possibility of the system
getting infected with viruses and malware, vulnerabilities and threats from hackers, and
cybersecurity threats (Larson & Gray 2015). The sensitive data and information in the
organization’s database are also at the risk of being stole, getting corrupted, or being lost due
to cybersecurity threats and vulnerabilities. Input injection is also a major risk that this
project faces due to the threat of an SQL injection targeting the company’s data warehouse
and database systems.

Other potential risks include MySQL injections attacks coming from the insertion of
unauthorized statements into the input fields of the web applications that come with
malicious comments into the company’s data warehouse and database (Chan, Song, Sarker &
Plumlee, 2017). The risk of staff being engaged in software, security, and digital analytics,
the firm may ace the risk of failing to improve its performance and to monitor the software.
1.3.4 Scope Control
To ensure that the project is implemented within the project scope, a change control will be used
to control all the changes to the scope identified in this document will be managed through the
Change Control (Larson & Gray, 2015). Conversely, the representative of the project sponsors will
have to approve any changes which would have a significant impact on the project timeline and
costs. The scope control will compare the state of the project against the project scope and
baseline. Thus, the scope control will involve controlling the project schedule, controlling project
costs, implementing quality control procedures, and controlling the risk inherent to the project.
During the project schedule control, the changes in the project schedule will be identified and the
potential impact on the overall project delivery assessed. The relationship between the vendors
and the changes in project scope and how they can be subjected to control are also assessed
(Kerzner & Kerzner, 2017). Cost control will entail controlling the budgeting process to ensure
that resource is effectively utilized in an efficient manner. In case of any deviation from the
budgetary figures, corrective measures are taken to bring the costs back to the budgeted values
3
(Larson & Gray, 2015). When it comes to quality control, the scope control will focus on
ensuring that PSL Corporation has fully complied with the relevant quality standards and
regulations. These quality standards may be those which are set by authorities or by the internal
standard policies of the organization.
1.3.5 Relationship to Other Systems/Projects
It is the responsibility of the business unit to inform IT of other business initiatives that may
impact the project.
The following are known business initiatives:

For effective coordination of its activities and process, PSL Corporation will inform IT of
other business initiatives which have a positive impact on the project. Conversely, business
initiatives will involve the integration of new technologies that comprise cloud computing
and hosted solutions. The business entity will obtain its software used in the data analysis
from software publishers using the hosted solution which will boost its data analytic
business. It will then set up its visualized servers at the data center within its premises
(Kerzner & Kerzner, 2017).

Cloud computing will increase the backup of the data and make them secure, reliable,
available, credible, and of high integrity. With the backup that comes with the cloud
computing package, the system will reduce redundancy and eliminate scalability. The
business entity will also make use of a database and data warehousing technique to enhance
its operations, it will use interfaces to link the coordination and communication between its
stakeholders and its databases. The infrastructure will also be redesigned to suit the user
preference and functionalities of the new development and growth plans. To maintain the
availability, confidentiality, credibility, and integrity of its data and information, both
physical and logical security controls will be implemented in the new system.
1.3.6. Potential Outsourcing and Offshoring Needs

PSL Corporation has limited options when it comes to data analytic, cloud computing, data
warehousing and other MIS technologies. Its limited technological infrastructure will make it
necessary to outsource whatever it cannot procure internally form competent vendors across
the globe. Asia and Europe could be a good outsourcing destination for its offshoring need
for this matter where it will be in a position to offer its service to its customers at their
convenience. The offshoring opportunities will leverage the competitive advantage of the
company against its competitors and international vendors through reduced cost of
operations. None the less, the outsourcing and offshoring opportunities pose geopolitical
risks and may be hampered by poor communication, and possible language barrier.
1.3.7. The Necessary Resources and Staffing Required

The necessary resource requirements for this project include financial resources, software,
servers, workstations, and computers, and hardware equipment. The human resource includes
software engineers, information system Analysis, network managers, and system developers.
4
The human resource will be responsible for the project management, planning, execution,
and coordination until its completion. The human resource will be responsible for allocating
resources and determine the scope of the project
