The Homeland Security Role In America The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) was created after 9/11 and designed to ensure the safety and security of the United States from terrorist attacks and other distasters. The DHS focuses on the federal preparations to deal with terroris, customs, border security, and other duties. On the other hand, the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) is meant to protect and defend the United States against terrorist attacks, foreign intelligence operations and espionage, cyber-attacks, and to support federal, state, country, municipal, and international partners. The DHS is responsible for preventing and the FBI is responsible for investigating terrorist activities. I do not believe this creates an issue for the government because Executive Order 12333 provides guidelines for all Intelligence activities and prevents one organization from doing what a different organization alreaady does, and allows the organizations to work collectively for a simiilar issue.
