Often the vertical strategy is employed when resources are scarce and competition exists. An example could be a mineral that is in high demand. The raw material may be needed for a manufacturing process. If your company can take control of mining the mineral, then a big competitive advantage is achieved. This could even force competitors out of business. Can anyone think of an example of a business controlling a supply chain in this manner?
