Case Study Scenario:
You were hired by XYZ University as a consultant. They wanted you to research an organization to see if a service learning opportunity would benefit future students and the community. Your final recommendation is based on the research you collected in the first four weeks and feedback you received from your instructor and peers.
WEEK 7 ASSIGNMENT:
It’s time to put together your final project based on the feedback you received from your instructor and your peers on the rough draft.
XYZ University has required you to provide a minimum of 8 peer-reviewed articles to support your research and recommendation. EBSCO tutorial.
You should have chosen to present your project in one of the following three methods:

Presentation: You will turn in an 8-10 minutes presentation (such as PowerPoint or Prezi), including visual elements (graphics, pictures, etc.), 150-200 notes per slide, a reference slide, and you should record your voice giving the presentation.
Speech: You will turn in an 8-10 minutes video speech (well-rehearsed), a written script of your narrative, and a reference page.
Project Requirements:
Complete the following steps.
Step 1: Introduction – Include an attention getting title. Introduce the social issue you have selected. Explain to your audience why this issue is important and why they should be interested. What are the benefits of service learning in effecting positive change for this issue? Conclude your introduction with your thesis statement. Use the thesis statement generator to develop your statement. This statement is your recommendation of why students should or should not conduct service learning at the organization. Use at least one peer-reviewed article to support your claims in this section.
Step 2: Body – Include the following sections from your previous research to include any changes you made due to instructor feedback: Community Organization, Community Partnerships, Cross-Cultural Challenges, Humanitarian Considerations, Volunteers, Roadblocks, Future Vision, Challenges, and Improvements.
Step 3: Conclusion – Restate your thesis. This means that you say about the same thing as you did in your thesis, but you say it differently. After stating your thesis, restate the topics from each of your body sections and emphasize what is important for your audience/readers to remember. End your conclusion with a call to action that illustrates what your audience/readers should do with the information you presented.
Step 4: References – On a separate reference page, list all the references you have cited in your paper to support your claims.
I will add my rough draft with the peer reviews I have recieved to assist in the work. Introduction
Research has indicated that many disadvantaged students end up to accessing good employment
due to inadequate experience. This due to the fact that many are not able to access to after school
programs that sharpen their skills due to exposure. In order to ensure there is equal chance to
access job markets, there is need to provide opportunity to gain experience for the poor. Lack of
after school programs has been a major menace in the community. After school programs are
very crucial in promotion of education to actual practice, it also helps in realizing various aspects
of life (Harpine, 2013). This is mostly done by charitable organizations that aim at increasing
access to after school programs to the disadvantaged in communities especially those living in
urban areas. Service learning has been very helpful in promotion of after school programs which
are pertained to improve the behavior of the participants.
In most case the disadvantaged in the society are not able to access after school programs
hence they don’t gain the required experience before venturing in their field of work. This leads
to some charitable organization participating in helping the disadvantaged to access the quality
education that they may not afford. This has led to the organization to participate in service
learning in order to identify the disadvantaged in the society in an attempt to equip them with
required experience in their line of duty. This has led to the members of the community to
accepting the disadvantaged when they oversee the advantages of education (Agola & Awange,
2013). Service learning in communities has led to many families accessing quality education
which led to the improvement of the lives even of their families. Service learning is very
important in promoting after school programs, hence more students are able to put their
classroom experience to practice increasing their eligibility in job markets.
Observations
Many community-based organizations exist in different communities that are all aimed at
helping the disadvantaged in the society. Promotion of equality is the main objective of the after
school programs as they enable the students to have diverse experience in all scopes of life. The
disadvantaged children in society have always felt inferior and undermined leading feeling of
rejection which the CBO has come to the rescue in the communities. The CBO’s have partnered
with universities and other institution to enhance the delivery of services to the community. The
student is the main agents of the CBO’s in the communities in determining the vulnerable who
requires assistance. Through the student, the organizations are able to access all parts of the
community which leads to efficiency in providing services. The CBO makes partnerships with
the community through the able people in the society to help in funding the projects to help the
disadvantaged.
In the process of promoting after school programs, there are more volunteers who sacrifice
their time and resources in order to be able to reach the community at their most pressing points.
Students who participate in community projects are in most cases volunteers and they only attain
exposure with no financial benefits. Community projects are projects that require dedication and
sacrifices of individuals. The process of identification of the legible people in society for help
humanitarian considerations are required in order to have the passion of helping disadvantaged.
Humanitarian considerations refer to the act of considering the weak people who are suffering
due to disproportionate hardships that they face. This leads to the involved parties having the
attitude to help others in their society. It takes a sense of humanity to help the weak in society
(Balserak, 2016). The aim of the volunteers is to ensure that in any society people have equal
chances for survival and there is no unnecessary suffering to the disadvantaged people in society.
In the process of carrying out service learning in society, various problems are experienced
by the students. The programs are in various communities which the students may not be
conversant with. In the process of participating in community programs, the students may vary
with the culture of the existing community which may inflict conflict with the society (Pat,
2015). This is always the biggest challenge in community interactions. This situation can be
minimized by creating awareness of the students about the cultural belief of the company before
they engage with the community. This can save too much in terms of preventing possible
conflicts and solving any existing conflicts that may arise. This will lead to maximization of the
benefits of the community from the service learning leading to success.
In some communities, those that are not able to access the after school program are viewed as
criminals. The community leaders at times do not take too much consideration on the
disadvantaged. When service-learning is utilized in the process of offering afterschool program,
there is equality in the distribution of resources and the poor are not discriminated since the
students are not conversant to the members of the community leading to fairness and equal
consideration (Holland, 2014). This will enhance students to appreciate all the levels of life.
Service learning in most cases involves young people who are students. In the process
of their service learning, they interact with the disadvantaged students in the community who
gets more encouraged and focus much on their studies. This motivation leads to many young
people excelling in education as they are able to interact with the students who act as their
mentor (Oser, 2013). The disadvantaged in the society are able to interact with the learned
students and they feel they are more encouraged to carry out their studies. This motivation will
lead to students excelling in their studies which gives them access to better working
opportunities. This helps to reduce the poverty levels in the community. The young students
participating in the service learning will also encourage student to participate in the after school
programs. Through the service learning the weak in the society are taken to medical camps
which will boost their health. Good health in the youths will help in participating in the
development of their society.
Self-motivation and passion are drivers to the participation in after school programs
(Gröpel & Kehr, 2013). The performance and implementation of service learning and the impact
is determined by the quality of students involved in the project. Self-motivated students with a
passion to help other leads to better community service and they are able to access more people
in the society. The future vision of the community organizations is to ensure that there is a
community where all the people in society are able to access to quality education and meet their
basic needs without straining. This is a very encouraging vision which motivates participation in
after school programs.
In the process of serving the community, various roadblocks may arise which may hinder the
proper workflow of the program. In the process of serving the community numerous liabilities
which may retard participation in after school programs. The problems may be inflicted by the
students either through omission or commission. In many cases errors results through omissions
where the student may be innocent but cause a liability in the process of executing duties. The
liabilities also results when the universities have not alerted their students on the possible alerts
that may pose danger in their line of duty. The other factor that can disorganize the process of
helping the disadvantaged in the community is the recruitment of poorly trained students who are
not ready to offer their services with passion. This leads to disruption of organization workflow
which leads to disruption of workflows by the organization leading to the slow development.
Student’s background and attitude also reduce their participation in afterschool programs.
Students who are involved in the service planning are from different social class in society.
Those who are from the high social class in the society, in most cases they have a negative
notion about the poor. They tend not to inflict a bad attitude to the students towards the
community and they prefer not to participate in after school programs.
Conclusion
For effective participation in after school programs, service learning can act as a very
important tool that will help the students to have an equal chance to participate in after school
programs enhancing their competency. After school programs are very essential in promoting
peace and reducing criminal rates in the community. The government and NGO’s should take the
obligation of offering after school programs in forms of internships in order to promote practical
application of class room knowledge. This helps in expanding the chances of the students
accessing better employment positions. Universities should also encourage the students to
participate in the service learning to excel life. Communities need also to appreciate diverse
culture in order to benefit from the service learning. Service learning improves the skill of the
student and help to improve the standard of the community at large.
