Emerging Adulthood age category

In research conducted by Jeffrey Jensen Arnett (2000), people in the Emerging Adulthood age category were asked if they felt that they had reached adulthood. Many responded saying “in some respects yes and in some respects no.” What criteria do you use in determining whether someone has reached adult status? What is the basis for your opinion? For example, are there specific milestones in the culture with which you identify that are required in order to reach adult status? What are your reasons for the criteria you put forth?

2. Arnett has also put forth that he believes there are 3 areas of identity exploration: love, work and worldviews. He argues that most identity exploration takes place during Emerging Adulthood (and NOT in adolescence). Do you agree? In each of these 3 areas (love, work, worldviews), is identity exploration greater in adolescence or in emerging adulthood? Upon what are you basing your opinions?

3. Erik Erikson believed that the challenge to be resolved during early adulthood was that of “intimacy vs. isolation.” Do you believe that this challenge can be resolved if someone does not have a “significant other” in their life? Why or why not?

4. Developmental psychologists/theorists tend to view the various stages of life to have specific “developmental tasks” to be accomplished by an individual in that stage of life. What do you believe are the developmental tasks that need to be accomplished in the Early Adulthood life stage?

Critiquing existing theories of personality

Time remaining: 1 day 1 hour

I expect you to track your learning in this course in a journal. I want you to record your thoughts about what you learned from this course. (This is sort of a metacognition exercise.) You can do this within the discussion thread or upload a Word document) or by hand (e.g., in a notebook). This journal should be separate from your class notes. If you are searching for what to write about, you can start by answering questions such as:

· What did you learn?

· What did you find interesting?

· What was meaningful to you?

· What will you do with the information?

· How will you change because of what you learned?

· How can the information apply to real-world (including personal) issues?

Examples of what you could write include, but are not limited to:

· summarizing interesting concepts from the readings in your own words.

· jotting down thoughts/reactions from class activities and discussions.

· recording your results from personality inventories and explaining what those results mean.

· drawing a diagram or model of a particular theory and adding your notes about it.

· critiquing existing theories or creating your theory of personality.

There is no designated structure to this assignment, but I want your writing to be thoughtful, deliberate, and above all, meaningful. I’d also like you to emphasize application to real-world issues. Pay attention to your writing quality (e.g., spelling, grammar, punctuation, etc.). Although there is no specified length requirement, good entries will typically be at least half a page. You do not need to write down what you learned from every class period; however, write what you learned in each chapter or weekly session.

Comment on therapeutic relationship

write a reflection . In your reflection , be sure to address each of the following. Integrate theoretical information specific to this model that you found in your readings.

  • Introduce narrative family therapy. Identify the primary contributors, and then, explain the context of the theorists at that time (e.g., place, background, interests).
  • Comment on the therapeutic relationship.
  • Explain the methods therapists use to separate the person from the problem. How do they thicken the family story to enrich its narrative?
  • Identify and describe model interventions that you saw in these client interactions in the videos.
  • Explore how social constructionist therapists work to stabilize, normalize, and create acceptance in clients as methods of solving the concerns of clients. They also focus on strengths and resiliency. Cite at least two or more examples, in detail, where you witnessed this strategy.
  • What would be your systemic hypothesis regarding the couple ?
  • Determine how you could apply mental health recovery concepts to the cases in the videos.

Support your assignment with at least three scholarly resources. In addition to these specified resources, other appropriate scholarly resources, including older articles, may be included.

Examples of marketing professionals

After reading the following Psychology Today article, write one original post of at least 200 words, regarding your thoughts on color and emotion association.  (Feel free to do your own research, too!)

Then make sure to reply to two classmates with at least 2-3 sentences.

https://www.psychologytoday.com/us/blog/color-psychology/202202/why-links-between-colors-and-emotions-may-be-universal

Things to think about and possibly discuss:

Do think culture plays a large role in how a person is or is not effected by color?

Have you noticed specific colors in restaurants / fast food places? Do you think there is an association with your emotion and hunger?

Have you noticed an emotional difference in yourself when you are surrounded by or in the presence of a particular color or colors?

Can you provide some examples of how marketing professionals routinely use colors to encourage people to purchase their products? Do you think you have associated certain emotions with a particular product?

Causes of impact on happiness

There are many complexities to the human person that affect someone’s happiness. Happiness can be affected by social relationships, work, leisure, and someone’s religion. Happiness leads to more positive emotions and outcomes. Positive social relationships can lead to happiness, love and belonging. Work accomplishments and success can also lead to happiness and fulfillment. Religion and relationship with God can also lead to happiness, security , and reassurance. (Branscome, 2016)

The Christian worldview helps to influence this happiness, social relationships, moral attitudes, and moral behaviors because we are encouraged to live out relationships that honor god. We are also taught to have our moral attitudes to align with the word of God and expectations that He has in regards to us and how we should live our life. Our moral behaviors which are the actions and the decisions we make should also honor God and His word as well .

For as we pursue higher education and the career field that we are called to,. we are representations of Christ in whatever field it is that we will go to. So it is exceptionally important that those things align. We should be careful as well in what relationships that we would commit to, that may be unequally yoked. (Grand Canyon University)

8-1 MG (200 words and 1 reference)

When people engage in healthy and positive relationships, whether platonic or intimate, their mood and happiness level increases. Having positive social relationships gives people the energy and drive to do things they love, go out and be active, and have more positive interactions with others. If someone were to be in a toxic or unhealthy relationship, they might experience things like stress, sadness, or even pain. People who are constantly feeling these emotions can find it harder to maintain happiness and relationships that bring them happiness. People look to their social relationships for comfort and support, so when they are lacking that, they often retreat and become depressed or sad. (Branscombe, 2016).

When people work in toxic environments, their happiness levels will obviously be lower as they have to deal with stress and other negative emotions while at work. A lot of these emotions often bleed into one’s personal life after they have left the office or work. If someone goes to work everyday doing something the love, they have a higher chance of being happy as they are bringing about positive and resourceful things into the world and other peoples’ lives. When people are happy doing what they do, their mood can influence others’ mood and increase the levels of serotonin within that environment. Many people turn to their religion or spirituality to aid them when they are going through rough times or to seek solace. Practicing your religion or pursuing your faith can put you in a positive mood, making you feel more happy and fulfilled in your life. Joining a church or club for your religion can allow you to feel more confident in your faith as well as be a part of another support group, the others in that religion or church. A person with the CWV, Christian Worldview, might talk about things like how you treat others, your relationship with your faith, and about the word. The Statement on the Integration of Work and Faith talks about how you are to treat others, turn to God and your spirituality when you are down, and your duties as the creation of God. As stated earlier, when people turn to their faith or spirituality, they are more likely to experience higher levels of happiness as they are a part of a group that problem solves and creates in the same way. Being a part of a system that shares the same beliefs and morals allows you to lean on others and increase your positive experiences in social contexts, making you a more rounded and spiritual person. Religion can make an individual more joyful through different components which may incorporate socialization and bolster that one may get in their push to turn out to be progressively religious, religion urges individuals to have an uplifting frame of mind, and the religious exercises that individuals might be engaged with, have a constructive effect on the religious individuals (Dhir, 2016). Religious individuals comprehend mental variables that affect bliss, and this encourages them to manage pressure successfully. Religious conviction has an impact on individuals’ conduct and way of life. Religious people understand psychological factors that have an impact on happiness, and this helps them deal with stress effectively (Lewis and Cruise, 2006). Religious belief has an influence on people’s behavior and lifestyle. Happiness has a lot to do with the personality of an individual and events that happen in their life. While happiness influences the quality of life that one lives, optimistic people usually strive to achieve an important level of happiness. It can also be argued that religious beliefs are especially important in determining the level of happiness that a person can achieve.

Our experiences, environment, and even genetics form our beliefs and attitudes. In turn, these beliefs influence our behavior and determine our actions. Beliefs that are widely accepted become part of our culture and, in many ways, shape the society we live in. Religion is the strongest belief system that has existed for thousands of years. In many ways, it is a code of conduct, a rule book that allows believers to function in a non-primitive or cultured manner. Religion plays a vital role in the formation of self-identity and the collective identity of a community, which then shapes attitudes, and cultural norms and influences individual and group behavior.  Most religions enforce moral behavior through positive and negative reinforcement by infusing ‘god-fearing’ elements in scriptures, such as the concept of karma and reincarnation in Hinduism, heaven-hell and salvation in Christianity, paradise, and hell in Islamism, peaceful afterlife and reincarnation in indigenous Chinese folk religions, and release from the cycle of reincarnations and reaching enlightenment in Buddhism. (Vajpayee 2016). It very well may be summed up that individuals who are more religious are going to be more joyful than individuals who are not related to any religious convictions.

The brain’s basis of emotion

According to psychological theory, moods are constant and enduring across time. The feelings ‘float above’ the current state of mind. You may think of your mood as a thermostat that controls how high or low your emotions will go. From what we have learned in the books, we know that the amygdala handles the most intense feelings, like fear, pleasure, and anger, among others (Freberg, 2019, p. 452). It may also cause electrical activity in the part of the brain that controls how we think consciously. The thalamus regulates tissue responses, which send signals to the autonomic nervous system and skeletal muscles. Mood is fundamentally based on the limbic system, an ancient and critical brain network—a group of interconnected brain areas responsible for processing and making meaning of external information. Serotonin and dopamine are only two examples of neurotransmitters employed as chemical messengers in the brain. When these signals reach the appropriate brain areas, we can identify things and circumstances, give them emotional weight to influence our actions, and weigh the risks and benefits of potential courses of action in a split second.

As stated in our textbook’s second chapter, neuroimaging provides us with more information on how the brain works. But what, exactly, does it serve to do? Like other bodily organs like the lungs and heart, the brain performs a specific function in the body. This one is different because its structure bears the marks of evolutionary advancement. Genes that control the functioning of every other organ have the obvious fingerprint of evolution, but the brain is a particular case. Those brain functions that arose first (like the neocortex) are located more dorsally and medially, whereas those that emerged later (like language) are located more caudally and laterally. Even if the human brain is unlike any other physiological organ, we should still think of the mind as something that arises inside it, even though the mind is not independent of the rest of the body.

Our text confirms in Chapter 13 that the cognitive neuroscience of emotions examines the function of emotions in thought processes, their neural basis at the cortical and sub-cortical levels, the way we perceive emotionally evocative stimuli, and the variations among individuals in how they react to such stimuli (Freberg, 2019, p. 459). Accelerating the shift from localization tactics (i.e., mapping individual brain areas to function, often called “neo-phrenology”) to a network-centered approach is necessary for comprehending the connection between emotion and cognition. The cognitive component of the brain is represented by one’s familiarity with social conventions. Emotional processing in the brain transforms these behaviors into expressive gestures. This is a constant activity since we unconsciously use this idea daily. Considering feelings and thoughts, it becomes clear that either one may triumph over the other.
