Cyber Bullying Annotated Bibliography Draft an APA cited 10-12 page annotated bibliography addressing a communication concept/theory/phenomena relevant to mediated communication. Your annotated bibliography should review at least ten academic articles/book chapters regarding your area of inquiry. When contemplating what communication concepts/theories/phenomena to address, keep in mind concepts and ideas addressed in your book review and/or readings throughout the course. Communication related concepts/theories applied or understood in light of mediated contexts might include one of the following items on this suggestive, but not exhaustive, list:

online presence in educational contexts, teaching and learning in online contexts, authenticity and self-presentation in online profiles, CMC and attraction, work-family boundaries and CMC, online rudeness/politeness, context collapse and social media, social comparison and the hyperpersonal perspective, online bullying, friendship in the digital age, multi-tasking, nonverbal communication and social presence, Hyperpersonal CMC relationships, SIDE effects, Electronic Propinqity, SIP, Efficiency Frameworks, breaking up and media choices, communicating bad news and medium choice, close ties and weak ties and social support, online face management, online dating, online presence, evolving perceptions of attraction in CMC, relational development via social media, motives for using specific media, disclosure, managing privacy (CPM) online, work/family blurring and information communication technology, long-distance relationships and mediated communication, gender performances and mediated communication, digital deception, online surveillance, etc.

Developing an annotated bibliography using at least ten academic articles/book chapters will help you better understand relevant academic literature regarding your area of interest. At least one source must come from a chapter from Wright & Webb. This topic of interest and research will also be the foundation for your digital and media literacy project.

What is included in an Annotated Bibliography?

For each source (10 academic articles/book chapters), please do each of the following: (1) provide the full bibliographic citation using proper APA format, (2) in one paragraph, briefly summarize the source, (3) in one paragraph, evaluate how the source helps you (or how it doesn’t help you) better understand the concept/theory under investigation, and finally, (4) in one paragraph, assess the source by addressing how it is changing how you think about your evolving topic for the Digital and Media Literacy Project (e.g., Does the source help you narrow your topic? Is it helping you conceive of possible digital literacy arguments — How one should experience/evaluate a particular mediated experience.).

One-Page Narrative

Finally, conclude the assignment with a one-page narrative description of how your chosen sources, taken as a whole, are helping you conceive of the subject/scope/purpose of your Digital and Media Literacy Project. This narrative should reflect a nuanced, narrowed area of focus for your Digital and Media Literacy Podcast. Refer to the white paper by Renee Hobbs, (pp. 15-19) for more information about enhancing digital and media literacy competencies.

Digital and Media Literacy: A Plan of Action

Specifically, in this one-page narrative, please include:

The specific goal of your Digital and Media Literacy (DML) Project. For example, “The goal of my digital and media literacy project is to help job seekers better understand the opportunities and pitfalls of online self-presentation” or “The goal of my digital and media literacy project is to help women better understand how to navigate work-life challenges exacerbated by information communication technologies.”
Specify the communication concepts/theories relevant to your project. Why are they relevant? (i.e., self presentation; spillover, uses and gratifications theory, etc.).
Clarify the intended audience for your DML project (i.e., teens, elderly, single individuals looking for a relationship, caregivers searching for health information, unemployed looking to create an online job profile, etc.) and specify why this particular audience would benefit from your project.

Examples:

“some have tackled the topic of cyberbullying. Some have looked at how people use social media to sustain long-distance relationships. Others have looked at how social capital is developed using CMC”
