As part of your journal assignment this week you began looking at what personal genomics
tests are currently available to consumers.
For this week’s entry, please comment on what surprised you, what interested you, what
things you wish you could find out but can’t at present. Let’s continue the dialogue about
what the current state of this rapidly changing field is.
What are your thoughts on the types of data publicly available?
Do you think this will help researchers to find cures or better treatments for diseases
more efficiently?
Should you have the right to all this information?
As you probably saw in Nancy’s 23 and me reports, she now knows she may have many
second or third cousins that she could contact. Would you want to know this? What about all
the disease risk data? Would you want to know? Would you make lifestyle changes as a
result?
Would you still have your genome tested right now with 23 and me knowing that you would
not get all this information?
