Project Overview
Process Specification Language (PSL) Corporation is a data analytics firm that provides
high-quality data analysis for decision-making and problem solving to various organizations. The
firms deal in gathering of consumer insights, demographics, and behavior to convert the data into
an analytical language that provides more information for other business. The main data types
collected include the psychographic, demographic, and consumer insights that is converted into
useful information through analysis and processing. PSL Corporation collects web-based data
using various operating systems that create network traffic for online activities of various users
and target customers.
The Company relies on both SP and Panel-based data to track and monitor the trends and
insights of various network users the data collected relates to the contract customer insight and
trends and may include the long-term personnel data and information of the customers. (Devnani,
Slaven, Bosslet, et al., 2017). Other significant data collected are information of the regional
location of customers, specific identifiers of customer devices, user activity, and purchasing
history. The company is therefore concerned with converting specific business data into useful
information that understandable by other business users.
The firm has been in operation for less than two years and has been primarily gathering
and analyzing data. It monitors the traffic on its website to ascertain whether the people who visit
their website went there directly or followed the link that the organization has provided. The
1
company also use web analytics software to measure and analyze the concrete data relating to
whether the website users used the keywords provided to maneuver to the site (Robson, 2015).
With the company’s planned growth of 20% in the next 18 months, there is a need to
redesign the current information system to improve the functionality to the system in line with
the anticipated expansion. However, the fact that the company is relatively new and operates
with limiting technological infrastructure has made it necessary to hire some potential
outsourcing and offshoring to facilitate the system upgrade.

(Robson, 2015). The project involves the design and development of the current information
system to improve the functionality to the system in line with the anticipated expansion. The
project goal is to facilitate the growth plan that will see the company expand its operations by
60% within the next 18 months. The project will incorporate a cloud computing technology in
the improved IT system while observing security protocols.
The company is planning to redesign its IT infrastructure and use a hybrid solution that
integrates different technologies and best practices in the industry to facilitate a cost-effective IT
system (Krishnan, Bhagwat & Utpat, 2015). The IT role of this project is to leverage the process
of gathering data by implementing an appropriate IT infrastructure with the capacity to support
2
its growth plan. In response to its growth plan. This improvement will enhance the capability of
the web-based tools

1.3.4 Relationship to Other Systems/Projects
PSL aims at upgrading the company’s infrastructure, hardware, systems, and operations.
The process of upgrading will be done to upgrade data analytics which in the company, comes
hand in hand with business intelligence. The department of the IT and the department of
analytics are the departments that will be affected by the project and hence they need to
collaborate to ensure that their day-to-day operations are not stopped by the project. The upgrade
will also involve integration of new technologies that comprise cloud computing and hosted
solutions. The business entity will obtain its software used in the data analysis from software
publishers using the hosted solution which will boost its data analytics business. It will then set
up its visualized servers at the data center within its premises (Kerzner & Kerzner, 2017).
Cloud computing will increase the backup of the data and make them secure, reliable,
available, credible, and of high integrity. With the backup that comes with the cloud computing
package, the system will reduce redundancy and eliminate scalability. The business entity will
also make use of a database and data warehousing technique to enhance its operations, it will use
interfaces to link the coordination and communication between its stakeholders and its databases.
Through the data warehouse, it will be easy to quickly pull any data needed, reduce errors, define
the trends in the market, and the data will be secure. The infrastructure will also be redesigned to
suit the user preference and functionalities of the new development and growth plans. To
maintain the availability, confidentiality, credibility, and integrity of its data and information,
both physical and logical security controls will be implemented in the new system.
1.3.6. Potential Outsourcing and Offshoring Needs
In the field of cloud computing, data analytics, and data warehousing, the company has
limited staff. Of all the employees, only four deal with IT. Due to the limited IT staff, the
6
company will outsource some of the project’s functions. The company that PSL Corporation has
selected is the TechCyt Company. This is a company that deals with cloud-based software and
data warehousing solutions. Through outsourcing, the staff of PSL Corporation will be able to
continue focusing on the company’s core tasks as the contracted company continues with other
tasks (Larson & Gray, 2015). If there will be a need to outsource other functions during the
course of the project, the company will contract another company.
1.3.7. The Necessary Resources and Staffing Required
Currently, PSL Corporation has 20 employees of which only four are IT
employees. The project will result in increased operations and hence the company will
have to hire more personnel. The IT department requires more staff to meet the
functions of the department. Hiring more personal requires training resources to train
new employees. Other necessary requirements.
