SOC312 ASU Adolescence Observation Powerpoint thank you for working on this can you save the power point regular so that i could add other information from the text book. thank you in advance. CDE312 / SOC312 Adolescence Observation Presentation Project

Project Overview
What better way to learn about teenagers and
understand adolescents than to observe them in
real life? For the Adolescence Observation Project,
you will observe a group of teenagers and apply
course concepts to your observation. (There must
be at least 3 teenagers interacting, so that you have
enough information to complete your presentation).
Objectives:
• Apply what you have learned in the course and
your own research to the real-world setting
• Produce a presentation summarizing your
observation experience and incorporating
course concepts
• Have fun learning more about adolescence
while gaining an understanding of practical,
applied sociology
If you have any concerns about your ability to
complete an observation, email Prof Cortes no
later than end of Week 2 to discuss it further.
No extensions will be given for an inability to
conduct the observation exercise.
Preparing for Your Observation
Teenagers like to hang out in groups after school
and on the weekends. Some ideas on where to
conduct these observations: the mall, the movies,
skate parks, food court.
Note: some cities and businesses have curfews
(i.e., teenagers must be present with an adult). Be
mindful of this and plan ahead!
I hope most of this is common sense, but the
following points are here to set some guidelines
clearly:
• Do not record or film the adolescent minors
• Do not interact with the adolescent minors
• Do not make the adolescents feel
uncomfortable
• In summary, be respectful of their space and
observe them in an appropriate and scientific
manner
This project will have 2 components. Please see
course calendar for due dates:
1. Project Check-in
(10 points)
To ensure you are on the right track to completing
your Project, you are required to complete a
“worksheet” updating me on your progress in
Week 2. You will need to provide the location and a
specific date and time you intend to complete the
observation. The worksheet is worth 10 points.
2. Project Presentation
(50 points)
Create a PowerPoint presentation between 10-12
slides (NOT including the title slide and reference
slide) summarizing your observation and relating
what you observed to course concepts. Your
presentation should include a description of the
location and group of teenagers you observed and
concluding thoughts. Your presentation should also
integrate the observation and course concepts from
each of the following categories:
1. biological
2. cognitive
3. peer group interactions
4. leisure or media use
5. identity
In other words, you will need to cite
at least 5 course concepts.
All submissions should be saved as a .PDF.
No other file will be accepted! You will post your
presentation in two places. Failure to submit in one
of these places will result in a 20% deduction of the
final score:
1. SafeAssign: This will check your presentation
against internet sources to make sure you did
not plagiarize. If it’s a 100% match to your own
work that is fine. If your references match other
references that is fine. You should be concerned
if any part of the body of your presentation
matches online sources or other student’s
papers, presentations etc.
2. Discussion Board: You will also submit your PDF
into the DB forum and respond to at least FOUR
presentations to earn full points. Please see the
course calendar for specific due dates.

Summary of What to Submit Where:
SafeAssign:
– PDF of your Presentation
Project Presentation DB Forum:
– PDF of your Presentation
– Respond to FOUR peers’ presentations

Plan for technical issues (think Murphy’s law).
Give yourself enough time that you would be
able to call the help desk if a technical issue
arises.
Take a screenshot of each of your slides
within your Group’s DB forum before the
deadline to ensure your submission was
successful. Instructions on how to collect

Remember to respond to at least FOUR
peers’ presentations to earn points for Peer
Responses!
Are you going to be working on your
Presentation up to the deadline?
Although I prefer students submit assignments
early and not procrastinate, I understand that such
an approach may not work for everyone, and that
you may be working up to the deadline on the
presentation. If this describes you, please pay
special attention to my recommendations below:
• Do NOT wait until the last minute (or 15!) to
submit
• Why? It can take up to 10-30 minutes just
to upload the PDF!
• Why? Your computer clock may be different
than Bb. It’s a popular deadline, Bb/DB
forum may take some extra time to process.
Plan for technical issues!
• Students often want to perfect their work before
submitting. It is better to lose a few points for
APA or grammar than to not earn any points
because you did not submit the assignment on
time.
• If the deadline passes, and your submission is
any later than 11:59PM you will have earned
a zero. One minute late is still one minute
late. Again, I do not accept late or emailed
assignments.
What happens after you submit?
• Please allow us 10 days to grade your
Presentation (see syllabus pg 12).
• Do not freak out if you don’t see “Project
Presentation” in MyGrades after the deadline.
I keep this hidden until we are done grading
everyone’s presentation, so everyone may see
their grade at the same time.

Example Slides

I understand students want to see an example presentation. Unfortunately, I have found that ideas, arguments, sources etc. are often copied from the example
presentation and it is hard to determine if it was intentional plagiarism or not. Therefore, to remove the temptation, I do not offer entire example presentations.
However, I do think it may be helpful to see how much information to include on a slide and how to connect concepts to the observation exercise. I have included
an example of “body content” slides below.
