Understanding the Concept of Community

You have a sample assignment from week 6 you did for me . Please check the last page for week 6 assignment

Understanding the Concept of Community

This week, you will submit your Signature Assignment. Your professor has provided feedback on the Annotated Outline you prepared for Week 6 and this should assist you in completing your final paper.

Begin by providing an overview of the social problem with which a social worker may be involved. As part of this overview, explain how elements of human rights and social justice intersect with this social problem.

Next, discuss the specific population you have chosen for focus on for this assignment. Describe and analyze characteristics of this population such as ethnicity, health concerns, and socioeconomic class.

Explain the implications of this problem on the developmental phase of life (i.e., infancy and early childhood, middle childhood, adolescence, adulthood, or late adulthood) that you have previously selected. Your explanation should examine how an intervention, or lack thereof, might affect the individual’s life course trajectory.

Once you have presented the social problem and the selected population, explain how your studies and experience as a social worker will assist you in advocating for your clients who face this problem.

Support your assessment of human behavior in social environments by drawing upon at least five scholarly works in the discipline of social work.

Length: 10-12 pages, not including title and reference pages

Your assignment should demonstrate thoughtful consideration of the ideas and concepts presented in the course by providing new thoughts and insights relating directly to this topic. Your response should reflect scholarly writing and current APA standards.

Understanding the Concept of Community

As your examination of human behavior and the social environment ends this week, it is important to explore the influence of community on an individual’s well-being. Community, by definition, refers to social units and systems that function in an attempt to meet individuals’ needs to survive everyday life. This interrelationship fosters a sense of belonging and assists an individual in creating and sustaining a sense of identity.

So how does community fit into social work?

Pray (1947) noted that at its root, social work’s role is to help individuals successfully and healthily navigate interactions with their social environment (i.e., community). Social workers generally specialize in one of several areas: working with children and families, working with individuals, and working within institutions such as corrections or medical settings. These all involve engaging with individuals in micro, mezzo, or macro settings, casework, group work, and community organization. Regardless of the work setting, the aim is to help individuals overcome issues that are affecting well-being.

Be sure to review this week’s resources carefully. You are expected to apply the information from these resources when you prepare your assignments.

Week 6 – Assignment: Examine Research for your Signature Assignment

Assignment

his week your task is to prepare an annotated outline for your Signature Assignment. Use the following criteria to organize your outline, which will become the basis of your Signature Assignment.

· The Signature Assignment for this course is to identify a current social problem with which a social worker may be involved. As part of your presentation of the problem, be sure to describe how elements of human rights and social justice intersect with this social problem.

· Select a population that would require social work services related to this problem.

· Select a developmental phase of life (i.e., infancy and early childhood, middle childhood, adolescence, adulthood, or late adulthood), and then explain the implications of this problem on an individual’s life course trajectory.

· Along with the developmental theory related to the stage of life you identified above, identify one theory of human behavior and the social environment that is used to support work with this social problem. Find at least two sources to support this claim.

· Examine how you as a social worker would advocate for the affected population regarding this problem.

Support your assessment of human behavior in social environments by drawing upon at least five scholarly works in the discipline of social work.

Length: 2-3 pages, not including title and reference pages

Your assignment should demonstrate thoughtful consideration of the ideas and concepts presented in the course by providing new thoughts and insights relating directly to this topic. Your response should reflect scholarly writing and current APA standards

Stages of Development

Your behavior develops and evolves throughout your lifespan. While developmental theorists have identified stages or critical periods of life in which certain milestones are typically achieved, research also has found the social environmental influences human development and behavior. As a social worker, understanding the

complexities of development from both universal and individual perspectives is central to achieving social justice for your clients.

Erik Erikson suggested a psychosocial approach to explain human development. He posited that external forces shape your life development, which occurs in specific periods of life from infancy through old age. A highlight of his theory is that each life stage contains specific tasks to be completed and crises to be managed (Knight, 2017).

Jean Piaget is one of the main theorists behind the models of cognitive growth and development. Like Erikson, Piaget presented a stage theory but focused specifically on child cognitive development. According to Piaget, children construct an understanding of the world around them using the same basic structure, but it is their life experiences that shape their behavior (Siegler, 2016).

Be sure to review this week’s resources carefully. You are expected to apply the information from these resources when you prepare your assignments.

Alzheimer patients and why they need care

Social care workers play a vital role in helping the vulnerable groups in society lead normal life and overcome their health challenges. They are vital Alzheimer’s patients to cope with their health conditions. The majority of the elderly people above 65 years in the UK suffer from this health condition (Sm-Rahman et al., 2020). This paper will analyze the role of the social care workers in helping the Alzheimer’s patients overcome their challenges and lead a normal life. Moreover, it will also analyze the role of the General Aggression Model (GAM) in shaping the behaviour of Alzheimer patients.

In the UK government, the majority of the elderly in the integrity and despair developmental stage (aged 65 years and above) suffer from Alzheimer’s disease. Navarro et al. (2018) state that 1 in every 9 elderly people in the UK suffers from this disease. After the outbreak of the covid-19 pandemic, the UK government is facing a shortage of social care workers who can deal with Alzheimer’s patients. As Stephan et al. (2018) point out, dealing with Alzheimer’s patients is one of the forgotten roles in the UK since most social care workers have diverted all their attention to helping patients dealing with post-covid-19 symptoms such as stress and depression.

Like all patients, Alzheimer’s patients need constant love, attention, and care. Rasmussen and Langerman (2019) observe that the majority of Alzheimer’s patients cannot fulfill their daily duties without the help of social care workers. This is a disease that affects the brain, especially their memory and their thinking capacity. Moreover, they usually develop short tempers and hence, they can be destructive if they are not attended to. Daniel et al. (2018) note that the role of social care workers is to help these patients regulate their emotions and accomplish their small duties. One of the laws of the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) is to promote equality in health care (Hall et al., 2019). As an upcoming social care worker, I believe that the government also needs to increase its resources in helping Alzheimer’s patients cope with their conditions.

The General Aggression Model of violence can be used to analyze the current situation of Alzheimer’s patients in the UK. As Liu et al. (2020) note, it is a model that is used to evaluate the origin of violent or unpredictable behavior among the patients. Alzheimer’s patients are not often violent but some factors have also contributed to their condition. According to this theory, ideas and perceptions usually create knowledge structures that determine how people act or behave. Daly (2020) states that although Alzheimer’s is a medical condition, various factors have also contributed to the rise of this disease among the elderly. For the elderly, the covid-19 pandemic has made them have mental problems such as stress and depression as most of the lost their loved ones (Pollock et al., 2020). These mental challenges coupled with their health conditions have created negative knowledge structures and most of them are starting to have unpredictable behavior. Hence, there is an urgent need for social care workers to help Alzheimer’s patients in the UK.

To conclude, the government needs to employ more social care workers to address the needs of social care workers. The elderly who are above 65 years cannot live without the assistance of the social care workers since this disease mostly affects the functions of the brain. Moreover, the General Aggression Model (GAM) also evaluates how Alzheimer patients may have different mindsets that ultimately introduce other mental health problems such as anxiety, stress and depression. Therefore, Alzheimer patients need more social care workers to take care of them.

Ethical guidelines in field

Discussion: When Does Personal Empathy-Bias Occur in Professional Settings and What are Effective Ways to Manage it?

You have been invited throughout this course to explore personal empathy-bias about the legal topics and issues that we have explored and analyzed. Being aware of one’s empathy-bias and setting these aside at work is an important part of abiding by ethical guidelines in our field. When serving the legal system or while in other professional settings, ethical guidelines require that forensic psychology professionals be fair, objective, and unbiased. To do so, being aware of one’s empathy-bias can be an important first step in setting aside personal opinions, beliefs, and viewpoints in order to be faithful to these ethical requirements.

To prepare:

  • Review the Learning Resources, especially content related to empathy-bias and ethical guidelines.
  • Reflect on:
    • Topics throughout the course and those in which you had the most trouble managing your empathy-bias
    • Other topics or work tasks that are most likely to elicit empathy-bias that might be challenging to manage
    • Ethical guidelines that might be at risk if your empathy-bias is not managed
    • How management of your empathy-bias could empower you to contribute more effectively to social change
    • Strategies to manage your empathy-bias, noting that different strategies might work better for different topics

Two evidence-based strategies

By now, you have identified and done some literature search on your Module 1 Session Long Project (SLP) topic/health behavior and target population. In short, you have assessed the need for a program or intervention to address the health behavior you previously identified.

For Module 2 SLP, you will again conduct a literature search utilizing peer-reviewed journal articles, books, professional organization articles, etc., to help you identify evidence-based strategies to best address the health behavior in your target population and create a program/intervention plan.

(3 pages in length) summarizing your findings on evidence-based strategies and a workplan to address the health behavior. A workplan sample can be found at https://ftp.cdc.gov/pub/Publications/Cancer/nbccedp/training/workplans/introduction.htm

The following items will be assessed in particular:

  1. Using the same topic you have chosen from Module 1 SLP, develop a program goal and at least two objectives (1 learning objective and 1 behavioral objective) for your target population. Your objectives must be specific, measureable, achievable, realistic, and time-phased (SMART). Make sure that you have read the required readings on SMART objectives before developing your goal and objectives.
  2. Based on your literature search, provide a summary of evidence-based strategies that have been shown effective in promoting or reducing the behavior in your target population.
  3. Identify two evidence-based strategies that you will use to implement your program or intervention. Provide an explanation why you have chosen these strategies and defend your choices.
  4. For now, include a workplan table with your goals, objectives, and activities/strategies. NOTE: Other parts of the workplan such as the data measurement tools, timeframe, responsible person, and measures of success will be completed in the next module SLP.

Obligation protecting patient privacy right

The most known issue with psychology and the law is that you are not allowed to breach your clients’ confidentiality. Confidentiality is the primary ethical obligation that psychologists must abide by in their practice. If needed, you are allowed to ask the client to sign a release of confidentiality paper that would give you to express what your client has discussed in sessions. There is an ethical concern about signing the waiver; how are we to know if the client is in suitable head space to give consent? As their doctor, you are supposed to protect them and their rights. If the client trusts you and asks for them to sign, they may believe you will still defend them if needed. However, when that waiver is signed, it is no longer in the psychologist’s hands; they must legally answer any questions they are asked.

APA standard 3:10 (c) states that if there is a court order for the doctor to testify, they must fully inform the client, “including whether the services are court ordered or mandated and any limits of confidentiality, before proceeding(APA,2002).”

Keeping what is revealed during a session private and confidential allows the patient to feel they are in a safe space to discuss their feelings. Psychologists need to remember how those notes can be subpoenaed at any point when taking notes during a session, so always keep notes to a minimum.

Reply 8-1 MG (250 words with 1 reference)

Some ethical issues that might arise between psychology and the legal system would be confidentiality and true informed consent. Because psychologists often see people who are in altered or vulnerable states, they might not be able to truly give informed consent to disclosing information to the legal system. If the patient does not understand the full extent of disclosing information but signs it out of fear or anxiety, there would be some questioning of if that is true informed consent. If the legal system is in a rush to get this information or the documents are not adequately explained, the patient might feel forced to sign the documents without knowing the who, what, when, where, and whys of them forfeiting their privacy rights. (Kress, 2013).

Confidentiality is one of the ethical obligations that psychologists must abide by in their practice. Keeping what is discussed private and confidential not only builds trust between the patient and the professional, but it also keeps the patient safe as they talk about raw feelings and emotions in safe spaces. If there were to be a break in the confidentiality between the two parties, it can do more damage and cause some trust issues within the patient, which could hurt or stop their treatment plan’s success. The psychologist does have an obligation to protect the patient’s privacy rights, but if the patient signs the disclosure documentation, there isn’t anything the psychologist can do. The legal system’s main goal isn’t to protect the privacy right’s of the patient, but it is the professional’s obligation to. This can cause an issue if the patient does not want to sign the disclosure or if they sign it during a state where they do not understand fully the right’s they are giving up.

REPLY 8-2 WC (250 words with 1 reference)

Defining insanity will differ from country to country and is based on mental disorders and behaviors. If someone is determined to be insane after committing a crime, they most likely will not be responsible for their actions (Richie et al., 2014). However, not all mental illnesses will fall under the umbrella of insanity. Insanity would include a mental disorder that has reached a point where the person cannot make decisions based on rationale or logic and impedes their ability to determine right from wrong. They do not understand their actions and did not commit the crime with the intent to commit a crime. If someone is mentally ill but not considered insane, regret may be present as they understood that what they did was wrong and there will be consequences. Furguson & Olgoff (2011) explain “The idea that one is not responsible for one’s actions when the actions are the product of mental illness, such that they cannot appreciate the nature of their actions, has in one form or another been in existence for centuries” (p. 79).

Steps to create a blog entry

create an educative blog in which you educate the general public, including individuals, families, and communities. In your blog post, be sure to clearly identify and explain 10 ways in which individuals, families, and communities can prepare for a crisis or disaster. Include strategies on training, education, and planning in your blog.

Length: 3-5 pages, excluding title and reference pages

Spotlight on Skills:

How to Create a Blog Entry Blogs are web-based journals that typically present an individual’s thoughts and perspective about a particular topic, but they go beyond just an online diary. Many blogs are written to help people who may be experiencing similar situations that the blogger has experienced, or in the case of the helping professions, blogs may assist readers in addressing issues of concern for them. Use the following steps to create a blog entry. • Organize your information to prepare an effective blog. • Attract your blog readers by beginning with an attention-grabbing title. Be sure blog content is well-written and relevant. • Present your main point in the first paragraph. • Be sure this introductory paragraph explains the problem to your blog readers by providing a bit of history to put it in perspective. • Use an engaging, conversational tone and words to keep readers’ attention.

References: Include a minimum of 3 scholarly resources.

The completed assignment should address all of the assignment requirements, exhibit evidence of concept knowledge, and demonstrate thoughtful consideration of the content presented in the course. The writing should integrate scholarly resources, reflect academic expectations and current APA standards, and adhere to Northcentral University’s Academic Integrity Policy.

Different crisis intervention strategies

Mental health professionals use different crisis intervention strategies and models to respond to crisis survivors. Federal, community and non-governmental agencies respond to disasters via several avenues (Cretney, 2016). This week, you will explore the literature on disaster response and crisis intervention. The information you will learn this week will help you identify the different ways federal, community, and non-governmental agencies have and continue to respond to different types of natural and man-made disasters. You will also cover material on crisis intervention mechanisms that are utilized by mental health professionals.

For this week’s assignment, you will conduct your own search for resources. You will find additional scholarly sources which provide relief, or attempt to provide relief (for example, first responders) to individuals, families, or communities during or after one of the following situations:

  • a natural disaster

Review a minimum of 5 scholarly sources and provide a bibliographic outline of your sources. In your bibliographic outline, include the full APA citation for each source and briefly describe the study or article review in 1-2 paragraphs (for each source).

Heads up to Signature Assignment: You will be including these selected sources in your signature assignment resources in Week 8.

Length: 2-3 pages, excluding title and reference pages

References: Include a minimum of 5 scholarly resources.

Approach to research project

ED504 Research Project Outline

There are three parts to Stage 1 of the Research Proposal, which is the final product generated in the ED504 course. The purpose of the outline is to help candidates solidify a topic and approach to a research project for addressing an existing problem in the environment of their field of study. The problem must be identified and supported by existing data and should be applicable to the candidate’s field of study (i.e., library media, counseling, teaching).

Remember, this is an outline. You need to provide sufficient detail to inform your instructor, but responses are not fully fleshed out. The complete details are provided in the Research Proposal and not here in the outline. To provide better guidance, responses to questions in the outline should not exceed one paragraph.

Part 1 Data Gathering/Analysis

Gather data previously collected at the classroom, school, or district level to justify the identification of a topic for study.

OBJECTIVE: Identifying and analyzing a problem or weakness currently found in candidate’s field of study for the purpose of completing the Research Proposal assignment. Remember, the Research Proposal is a proposal for an experimental research design.

RESPOND TO THE FOLLOWING PROMPTS:

1. Identify the problem that you wish to research and write a problem statement. (i.e., The problem this study will address is poor student academic achievement.) (Chapter 1)

2. Identify your hypothesis. (Chapter 1)

3. Elaborate on how you determined this was a problem and write a purpose statement based on your problem statement. (i.e., The purpose of this study is to evaluate the impact of socioeconomic status on student academic achievement.)

4. Construct a graphical representation that allows for easy analysis of your compiled data that highlights your problem. Identify the source of the data and discuss its credibility. Examples of existing data might include school district test scores, absenteeism reports, graduation rates, cost, ranks, divorce rates, living habits, etc.

5. Discuss the data in your graphical representation to confirm that a problem or weakness can be addressed that is appropriate to the scope of the required program.

6. Connect the problem or weakness to trends or patterns represented in your data.

Part 2 Literature Review

You will conduct a literature review following APA format (most recent published edition) and become familiar with the scholarly debate surrounding your topic and what scholars and practitioners say about the best way to address the particular need or problem identified through the data analysis.

OBJECTIVE: Reviewing and writing a Review of Literature on your chosen topic for the purpose of completing UWA’s Research Proposal assignment.

RESPOND TO THE FOLLOWING PROMPTS:

1. Provide a developed statement of the research problem that demonstrates a sound and focused understanding of the identified problem.

2. Identify best practice(s) that will be used to address the problem or weakness. This should be a theorist or theory that is known and documented in the research literature.

3. Describe and justify a trend/theory that will be used to validate the use of the identified best practice(s) and clearly highlight the connection with the identified trend/theory to address the problem.

4. Provide reference listings (in APA format) for a minimum of 10 sources (largely representative of the most recent five years) you will use to describe/justify the best practice and/or theory identified. Be sure to include only sources that show clear connections with the best practice(s) and/or theory/trend identified as viable responses to the problem/weakness presented.

5. Provide a summary of the literature and how it justifies the need for the study. You are synthesizing your collection of sources into a brief 1-2 paragraph summary. Do NOT describe the specific studies included in your sources.

Part 3 Methodology/Action Plan

You will write a measurable and executable action plan on your chosen topic for the purpose of completing UWA’s Research Proposal assignment. The action plan must be APA formatted (most recently published edition). Collaborative resources must be included, and each category in the grading rubric must be addressed. Evidence of collaboration with appropriate stakeholders is required.

OBJECTIVE: Writing a measurable and executable action plan on an identified topic for the purpose of completing UWA’s Research Proposal assignment.

RESPOND TO THE FOLLOWING PROMPTS:

1. Identify the population and provide a description of the participant sample and the sampling technique.

2. Justify the sampling technique and the sample chosen.

3. Describe the role of all participants and the plan to prevent harm to them, including the plan for protecting student confidentiality and data.

4. Provide a description of steps and sequence of steps required to complete a successful study.

5. Justify the plan of action with respect to the identified problem and purpose. Be sure to justify the connection between the plan and the expected impact on student achievement.
