Grantham Public Speaking And American Government There are two courses: Public Speaking and American Govnerment
1. For the American Government Task here is my proposed amendment topic:
The use of texts in the United States as an official way of communication should be amended into the constitution. Texts are easy and effective way of communication thus including in the bill of rights is highly recommended. Text transcripts already exist in the system and thus amending into the constitution gives a high chance to efficacy. Text transcripts require a constitutional amendment to ensure proper regulation of the language and choice of words. Texts can be a source of conflict with poor language use and thus amendment creates sense of commitment among the citizens of the country (Bray et al, 2016).

Reflection on Your Proposed Amendment to the Constitution
In at least 250 words reflect on your proposed amendment to the U.S. Constitution that you
presented to your peers in the discussion board. This assignment is about creating and
communicating a fully developed argument.
1. First, describe your proposed amendment to the U.S. Constitution. (this is a thesis
statement)
2. Second, present and describe three (3) arguments in support of your Amendment. Think
especially about the ideas, themes, and nature of our nation’s founding and political
institutions. For example, do our founders ideas of what liberty means support you
proposed amendment?
3. Third, address at least two 2 counter arguments that could be made by those that might
oppose your proposed amendment. Describe those counter arguments fully and discuss
why those counter arguments do not sufficiently counter your proposed amendment to the
Constitution.
4. Finally, write a conclusion paragraph that restates your proposed change to the
Constitution and reviews what you believe to be the most compelling argument in support
of your proposed amendment.
Be sure to include a reference list for any outside sources you use in completing your paper.

Introduction to Public Speaking
Week 8 Assignment
Persuasive Speech
Your final project, the persuasive speech, is your opportunity to take a stance on a topic of interest and support your viewpoint. This final
presentation represents the culmination of smaller assignments. Consider:
The topic itself. What is the issue, who are the stakeholders, and why is this important to you? And...
why should it be important to us?
Your topical outline. What do you plan to tell us? What evidence do you plan to share, to convince us
that your side is right in this debate?
What did you learn from the devil's advocate? How can you use their propaganda against them – so
that your argument is even stronger?
What tips will you use to make a 'great' persuasive speech? How can you use visual aids?
And finally, what will you ask the audience to do once you've persuaded them that your viewpoint is the
most logical/sensible? Will your concluding thoughts resonate with them?
A few parameters:
This speech should be 8-10 minutes in length.
Submit the outline for this speech with your four sources (use the template below).
Establish credibility
Use visuals where you can!
Show enthusiasm! Use your voice to engage the audience and leave a positive impression.
You may access your Speech Outline Template in the assignment item for the week.

Interest Group Consultant Simulation
In this activity you will be pretending to be a consultant for an interest group. You will be
charged with helping that interest group better achieve its goals. Have fun and be creative in
this activity!
Your paper should be at least 500 words long.
1. First, select an interest group from the following list that you will be consulting for (*you
may only complete this assignment on one the listed interest groups):
a. Service Employees International Union
b. National Association of Realtors
c. US Chamber of Commerce
d. National Rifle Association
e. National Education Association
f. American Federation of State, County, and Municipal Employees
g. AARP
h. National Association of Broadcasters
2. In the first sentence of your paper please state very clearly what interest group you have
selected.
3. Next, describe in your own words, what your selected interest group mission is. Do not
copy and paste or quote the organization's mission in your paper. Use your own words.
4. Next, take that mission statement and rewrite it in a new short one sentence “elevator
pitch” that you think would be more effective. Feel free to get creative.
5. Look up your selected interest groups website. What is the web address? What do you
like about their website? What do you think could be improved about their website?
6. Look up your selected interest group on social media. What is good about their social
media presence? What could be improved about their social media presence?
7. Look up your selected interest group on Open Secrets or the Federal Elections

group have? What is that money being spent on? In your opinion, are they using their
money effectively? How could they spend their money to better accomplish their goals?
8. Come up with at least one completely original idea that could be used to improve your

Introduction to Public Speaking - Week #4 Midterm
Midterm - Persuasive Speech Outline
Your midterm exam is meant to help you prepare for your persuasive speech, which
is your final project. For your midterm exam you need to submit an outline and a list
with your four sources for your persuasive speech in week 8.
By now you should have narrowed down your persuasive speech topic. This week
we'll put together your outline for that speech. You'll also need to include four
sources you'd like to use. You do not have to use those sources in your final
speech, but you will have a head start on your research.
For the outline use the template below. The chapter readings in our textbook this
week will help in completing the outline template appropriately as well.
For the outline, briefly give ideas as to what you'd present for each part. For
instance, if you were to use the topic about cutting back on sugar you can start with
an attention getter about the movie Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory. Then,
for the main point you can talk about health and provide supporting details about
health. The second main point could be about weight or finding energy from other
foods, etc. Remember each point can be brief. Just give an idea of what you think
you'd mention. You don't have to give any research or material like that, just ideas
for each point.
Then after your outline copy and paste four sources you may end up using. Paste
them like you would in a reference page and I'll be able to look at the sources for
review. Then give a brief description of what those sources cover to help show that
you reviewed them and that they will work for your speech.
