With our country coming up with the national sex offender registry was out

standing. Just think that you can go online to see if any sex offenders

are living close to where ever you are living in the community. It was

started nationally in 2005 here in the United States. The National Sex Offender Public Website—coordinated

by the Department of Justice—enables every citizen to search the latest

information from all 50 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico,

Guam, and numerous Indian tribes for the identity and location of known

sex offenders (www.fbi.gov).

This registry is not made for anyone to take the law into there own

hand even though these people did something wrong. It is there for you

to look up to see if you have any sex offender registry in your area.

Plus, it is right for you to keep your kids away from the area a sex

offender lives. They always have to make sure they go by the rule set

for them while on the sex offender registry. People should always need

to know if a sex offender is living in the community so that they can

keep all the kids safe in the community.

India’s new National Database on Sexual Offenders (NDSO), a resource only law enforcement authorities can access, has 4.4 lakh entries (www.indiatoday.in). The data base was started in 2005. There sex offender registry follows the Dru Sjodin National Sex Offender registry except for making it public for the people. It is good that other countries are following the United States by doing a sex offender registry. There are so many sex crimes that are going on all over the world. You need to make it public to the people so that people know who has committed a sex offense living around them in the community. I know you do not want it to get out about the sex crime the person committed, but you are harming other people in the community by not letting the registry to go public. They are trying to change it in India to make the registry to go public.

To me, the registry is a crime control policy. By letting the sex offender registry be able to be seen by anyone in public is right. By assumption, the likelihood that an offender commits a crime is increasing in the relative utility of crime commission (or decreasing in the relative attractiveness of choosing only legal behavior) and decreasing in the difficulty of targeting a victim, punishment probability, and punishment severity (Trescott, 2012, pg 50). It is letting people know who lives around them that commit a sex crime. Plus, you are going to keep your kids away from that person so that it wants to happen to your kids. Also, it is going to keep everyone safe in the community because they now where the person lives. Yes, people are always going to look at you differently because of the crime you committed. Plus, it is always good to make sure it does not happen again.
